Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation (TENS)

Electrical impulses are applied to the painful area through electrodes with a battery operated stimulator.  It is believed the electrical impulses override the pain messages travelling along the nerve pathway to the brain.  It is a very common method of drug-free pain relief used in physiotherapy.
