High frequency soundwaves are applied to your body through a transducer to produce a heat.  The thermal effect encourages blood flow that aid in tissue repair and ease muscle tension. Also therapeutic ultrasound can produce a vibratory effect at a cellular level to help stimulate cell membranes. This physical stimulation appears to enhance the cell-repair effects of the inflammatory response.
